Trying their luck: ‘Event Landlords’ prove a big hit in the scrum for rental property during Rugby World Cup

As the masses descend from around the world for the Rugby World Cup between 18th September and 31st October, one of the first things on their minds is where to stay. Enterprising homeowners, with a keen eye for some extra cash, are renting out rooms near venues for the duration of the event - with prices at about £150 a night. Those indifferent to the sport are in some cases vacating their homes entirely to maximise revenue and will enjoy a holiday elsewhere - with three bed properties in Twickenham going for £1,500 a week.

This is part of a growing trend known as “Event Landlording” - a way to make money on your property if you’re lucky enough to live in the right area at the right time. Even the players themselves are getting in on the action, with ex-England winner Lewis Moody and Welsh legend Gareth Thomas offering their homes for rent via Airbnb - with profits going to their respective charities.
