Brief History

Langley Green is an area in the north-west of Crawley, West Sussex, with roots that stretch back to rural farmland before the town's post-war expansion. The area was developed mainly in the early 1950s as part of the Crawley New Town project—an ambitious urban planning initiative designed to accommodate London’s overspill population after World War II.

The name “Langley” is believed to derive from Old English, meaning a "long clearing" in the woods. Before its transformation, the land consisted mainly of open fields and agricultural plots. As Crawley was designated a New Town in 1947, Langley Green became one of its key residential neighbourhoods, with a mix of council and private housing.

Since then, Langley Green has developed into a diverse and lively community. It has preserved its strong sense of identity, influenced by its New Town heritage and the multicultural makeup of its residents today.
